Installation and setup

Plugin installation

First install WordPress (Installing WordPress) , then please log in to admin panel to install Ultra Portfolio - WordPress plugin.



There are 2 ways of installing a plugin

1. Install via WordPress Admin

2. Upload via FTP directly to your server.

 

1. Install via WordPress Admin

To install the plugin correctly, you find plugin ultra_portfolio.zip file downloaded from marketplace.

Go to WordPress admin panel -> Plugins -> Add New to upload plugin.

Upload this zip file > Click on Install Now. This will install the plugin. After installation click on "Activate" link to activate the plugin. You will find a menu item created as "Ultra Portfolio" in your admin menu at bottom.

 

 

2. Upload via FTP directly to your server.

To install the plugin correctly, you MUST UNZIP ultra_portfolio.zip file downloaded from marketplace.

  1. Open your FTP client and connect to your server.
  2. Locate your extracted folder and copy the "ultra_portfolio" folder in the plugins directory of your WordPress installation. Plugin directory of default WordPress installation is your_rooth_path/wp-content/plugins/
  3. The correct plugin folder must have the uport-core.php file within the root. i.e. your_rooth_path/wp-content/plugins/ultra_portfolio/uport-core.php

Log into the WordPress admin, go to Plugins → You will find a new plugin "Ultra Portfolio - WordPress" in the list. Now click on "Activate" link below it.
You will see admin theme in action directly..

 

Plugin Database Tables

Note: On plugin activation it will create 3 new tables in your WordPress database named as WP-TABLE-PREFIX_uport, WP-TABLE-PREFIX_uport_items, WP-TABLE-PREFIX_uport_categories.
 

Updating the Plugin

CAUTION: If you have made any changes to plugin files, updating will overwrite your modified files and you will loose any customizations. For safe updates please take the backup first.
 

If you wish to upgrade via FTP, you can do the following:

  1. Open your FTP client and connect to your server.
  2. Locate the plugin in the plugins directory e.g. ‘/wp-content/plugins/ultra_portfolio‘
  3. Make a backup if needed by downloading the current version of the Plugin to your computer.
  4. Upload the new files from ultra_portfolio folder to the exact same directory, overwriting the existing files.
  5. When completed, the new version will be active.

 

Demo Content

After the plugin is installed correctly, a new tab is added in the Admin Menu named as Ultra Portfolio.

This menu has sub-menus like Portfolio (or Dashboard), Item list, Add new item, Category list, Add new category, Install demos.

Ultra Portfolio comes with inbuilt demo examples for easy setup. For first time installation click on install demos page and install demos. At this time it will create few demos but without any imported images. You need to install demo-media-library too for images, audio and videos to be added.

To add media to demo portfolio you need to install WordPress importer plugin.

Go to Tools > Import

 

Select Wordpress


If Wordpress importer is not installed, go ahead and install it. Run the importer. Choose the ultra-portfolio-demo-media-library.xml file located in Demo content folder of downloaded package.

That’s it, all demo data has been imported.

Categories

This panel helps you to maintain categories of your portfolio.
Basically categories are set or group of portfolio items. In this panel you can Add/edit/delete a category for your portfolios

For eg: For creating a Portfolio named "Products", the categories can be "Mobiles", "Accessories", "Watches" etc.
Category description is used to describe your category for reference only.

 

Portfolio Items

Items are the acutal portfolio items displayed in portfolio. They can be image, video, external video source, Embeded code, audio or video file etc.

Item title, description, URL, Slug, Categories, Preivew image or video, Pop up Lightbox image, video or embeded code all can be managed from this panel.

All the terms are explained in detail in the panel respectively for ease of use along with examples.

New/Edit Portfolio

Portfolio is a set of items loaded from various portoflio categories.

For ease of use the portfolio edit panel is divided into four sections named as:
1.) General
2.) Layout
3.) Effects
4.) Live Style

Whole Portfolio panel is designed with almost AJAX based scripts. Means to make any change you do not need to reload the page again and again. It saves your valuable time and your server resources. Plus it is fast and easy to use.

This panel is loaded with live portfolio preview. Whenever you save a section the live preview is reloaded. You can make a change to any section and choose to save that single section OR make changes in all the sections and choose to save all sections.

Also Live Style section helps goes even a step further. All the changes made in that panel (except google fonts) affect the live preview at the same time without even reloading the live preview section. Try it to believe it. We just want it to be used without any hassle.

 

Create Portfolio

Portfolio items are linked to portfolio categories. And portfolio categories are linked to main portfolio.

Let's see for an example:

1. Under portfolio category section you create some categories like photography, web design etc.

2. Then in portfolio item section you add image along with its title, description etc. And link this image to the categories (created in point 1).

3. Then you can create a new portfolio or edit any inbuilt demo portfolio. In this new portfolio you can link portfolio categories (creates in point 1). All the portfolio items (images) linked with the selected categories will be displayed in the portfolio.

This portfolio categories is the link between your portfolio and portfolio items (images).

General settings

This panel helps you to manage Unique name and categories to load items from in your portfolio.

Name is only for indentification process.

Woocommerce categories are also shown here (if installed).

For new portofolio, you need to select atleast one category to load live preview.

 

 

Layout Settings

This panel helps you to design the basic layout structure of your portfolio, based on various screen resolutions and devices.

Select grid, masonary, slider or single slider style for your portfolio in this panel.

Control number of columns of your portfolio from this section for different devices. You can choose columns for large, medium, small,extra small screen devices.

Control the spacing among the portfolio items on all four sides. 0 values on all four sides (top, left, right, bottom) will create full width portfolios. Mention any value in integers or with unit.

Item details are the display elements you want to show in portfolio and at what place. Eg: Show portfolio title on mouse hover, or visible by default outside image area or above image.

Outarea is the position of item details relative to image area.

You can also pick your image width and height to crop and generate item images on fly.

Minimum and maximum width of portfolio area can be defined for responsiveness.

 

 

 

Effect Settings

This section helps to control the effect of your portfolio. Means how will portfolio behave on interaction end user.

Choose from a set of 22 different effect available in 2 to 3 variations each.

These effects themes to give your portfolio unique, creative and modern effects. Take out some time to explore these effects and understand its depth.

Also control how your filter items will animate when the categories of your portfolio are clicked. Easing, animation effects and animation speed can also be controlled from this panel. Explore the inbuilt demos for more perfection and knowing.

 

 

Live Style

This section is the most user friendly section from UX point of view. It is designed to manage minute CSS details of your portfolio item. Appearance of elements of your portfolio can be fully controled from this section with just FEW CLICKS. No coding required.

This panel is live AJAX based and the changes can be seen live. You can do live editing in your portfolio without any hassle and save lots of time.

You can set typography options like google font, back up font, font size, font weight, line height too in this section for any text in your portfolio. 650+ google fonts are integrated for use.

Manage spacing like color,backgrounds,border,padding and margin text,title,buttons,categories,price etc.

 

 

Live Preview

All the settings made in the portfolio sections are shown in the live preview section. Whenever a section is saved it reloads the live preview section.

Live Style settings are applied at the same time of editing to the live preview section for ease of use and speed.

WooCommerce

Ultra Porfolio plugin is integrated with the famous WooCommerce plugin. You can display your WooCommerce shop products in the portfolio in unique styles. You need to install and activate WooCommerce plugin first to load items from it in the portofolio.

Preview images used for WooCommerce items are the set featured products images. Regular and sales price can be shown too for each product.

You can also choose to show add to cart button based on layout settings.

Code Implementation

A shortcode is a simple set of functions for creating macro codes for use in post content. A shorted generated to insert a portfolio looks like as below:

PHP code

In case you want to used shortcde in your theme files then you will need the PHP code. Thus it can you used to display portfolios in any area of the website other than post or page editors.

Here id is the unique auto generated portfolio id. You can get this code and portfolio id from the plugin Portfolio list page.

 

 

Uninstall

If you want to remove this plugin, Go to your WordPress Admin panel > Plugins. You will find a plugin "Ultra Portfolio WordPress" in the list. Now click on "Deactivate" link below it.

This will uninstall the plugin and disable all the ultra portfolio shortcodes used anywhere on the site.

Note: Uninstaling the plugin will NOT delete the database tables and demo media library uploaded.
